User Research  |  2021  |  aetherWeb (Currently Under Construction)

Team Members: Lydia (Sprint Master), Joyce-Me (UX/UI Designer), Mallory (PM), Eric (Engineer), CHC (Data Scientist)

aetherAI develops medical imaging, neural network, and AI technologies with strong partnerships in hospitals to approach medical issues from a clinical perspective and deliver high-quality solutions.

aetherWeb is an academic web platform for medical scientists to publish and share research papers with medical students worldwide. The challenge is to position and monetize the product. Our BD team seeks solutions while designers strive to understand user needs and improve the product.

To address these challenges, Lydia, my UX/UI Designer colleague and I conducted a design sprint to gain insights into user needs and find innovative ways to position and monetize aetherWeb.

Reflection

More than rewarding

While we found ourselves unable to complete the design sprint due to tight schedules in our company's product development, we collectively decided to postpone it until all team members could reconvene. Nevertheless, this experience left us all with a sense of fulfillment.

Throughout the sprint, the entire team had the opportunity to come together and tackle a significant issue that had been casting a shadow over the future of aetherWeb. By engaging in interviews with doctors, pathologists, and stakeholders, I gained invaluable insights into their desires and requirements. Unlike our prior fragmented interviews, our meticulous planning allowed us to connect the dots seamlessly.

Moreover, this design sprint served as a fantastic opportunity for cross-departmental collaboration. I had the privilege of working closely with the data team, delving into their work and the feedback they'd received from doctors. This provided me with fresh perspectives and insights that might have otherwise eluded me.

Although we couldn't wrap up the sprint as planned, the data we collected continues to inform our product design decisions. As designers, this information forms a robust foundation on which we can construct our user experiences and interface designs.
