Birka is not only a NFT marketplace but also a place for flexible swaps. There are various NFT platforms, what makes Birka special? By integrating both marketplace and NFT swaps, Birka saves all NFT users a huge amount of time, finding the best match, posting your NFTs, or making swap deals in just a click.
Market Research
I conducted thorough market research on popular NFT marketplaces and swap platforms to identify their distinctive features and potential drawbacks. This research provided valuable insights into how these platforms convey their brand identity through design, enabling me to learn from both their successes and failures.
Opensea, as the most renowned NFT marketplace with a substantial user base, has encountered challenges related to high gas fees and sluggish website and NFT trade speeds. In contrast, while LooksRare and Gem introduce unique features, their user interfaces often pose navigational difficulties. On the other hand, SudoSwap and NFTTrader suffer from a lack of user-friendliness, frequently necessitating a tutorial for first-time users. This comprehensive analysis informs my approach to crafting user-centric and efficient designs for optimal user experiences.
Personas
The pain points of our target users primarily center around the inconvenience of switching between multiple platforms and the overwhelming amount of time required to find trading information. Heavy users desire more flexibility on the platforms, such as the ability to add value or perform multiple NFT swaps.
Additionally, a user-friendly interface, a diverse collection of NFTs, and low gas fees are basic requirements that I would prioritize in our product development, as some users find these technical aspects challenging.

Features
Make Offers
Our goal is to make NFT trading as smooth and easy as possible. While the marketplace template already exists, I discovered that the trading process itself was the most challenging part to improve.
I initially divided the "make offer" process into three types: buy now, make buy offer, and make swap offer. However, through trial and error, I found that combining the buy offer and swap offer UI not only improved development convenience but also reduced the learning curve for users. The new interface helps users clearly understand what they're giving and receiving.
Offer List
I also took the idea of "giving and receiving" and merged it into offer list. As this is the place where NFT owners and buyers review all the offers this NFT get and access how much value they would like to trade with.
I use the buttons to tell the users that which view point they're in and what can they do to the offers received or sent.

Taking a step back
The NFT market changes rapidly, and keeping up with technical updates can be a challenge for even the most experienced teams. As a small team, we faced some technical difficulties that made it challenging to implement certain features. However, we were able to leverage our unique ideas and vision to create a product that we were proud of. Despite the challenges we faced, the pause allowed us to take a step back and approach the project from a fresh perspective, considering important questions such as what improvements could be made, the optimal timing for releasing the product, and whether the solutions provided were adequate for users.
Despite the pause, this project was still rewarding for me as I had the chance to dive deep into the NFT industry, which had piqued my curiosity for some time. Working with my client, who had been an early NFT holder and had a solid understanding of cryptocurrency, was a blast. Through our collaboration, I learned a great deal about the industry and the issues he had observed as an NFT holder over the years. We thoroughly discussed each feature and tweaked it until it met our satisfaction, resulting in significant learning experiences for me throughout this project.
